In short

Inferlupa comes only from evolving a Flameruff in its Basic Form. Finish the Warrior mission at Beast Fang Ridge, which takes three days of real time, then evolve at level 20 with one Night Stone and six Unbroken Flameruff Spirits, and pick the Inferlupa branch.

The guides disagree

Can you hunt the elite Flameruff while the Warrior mission is still running, or only after it ends?

only once the quest is over

From the second day of the mission, walk through the clearing in daylight. If the elites aren't there, come back once the mission is done. We'll check which day they first appear in our own game and update this page.

Follow the right clue at Beast Fang Ridge and it leads you to a campfire in the Ridgeback forest, with a group of Emberpup sitting around it. They talk only at night, and only to a player twined with an Emberpup or one of its evolutions. Three nights of their stories, and two fights, make up the Warrior mission, and finishing it is what opens the branch that turns a Flameruff into Inferlupa.

There’s no way around that mission, because Inferlupa can’t be caught. The official wiki gives it no habitat, and the guides we read agree that evolving a Flameruff is the only way to get one. Besides the mission, the evolution takes a Flameruff in its Basic Form at level 20, one Night Stone, and six Unbroken Flameruff Spirits. The mission moves forward only at the server’s daily reset, so it sets the pace. Start it first and work on the rest in between. The sources disagree on one point only, whether the Spirits can be farmed during those days.

Which Flameruff Can Become Inferlupa?

Flameruff has two final evolutions, and you choose between them on the evolution screen by picking a branch. Scorchhowl is a Fire creature in the DPS role. Inferlupa, number 004 on the official wiki, is a Nova Stage creature with Fire and Dark elements, the BREAK role, and 541 total stats. Neither of them evolves any further, which is why the choice matters. By our reading of the evolution tree, a Flameruff that becomes Scorchhowl can never become Inferlupa.

The form matters just as much. Only a Flameruff in its Basic Form can take the Inferlupa branch, while the Highland Form and the Mountain Woods Form evolve only into Scorchhowl. So check which form yours is before you start leveling it.

The Warrior Mission, Day by Day

The mission lasts three days of real time, because it advances only when the server resets each day, and changing the time of day in the game won’t shorten the wait. The game lists it as “Journey: Warrior,” with the subtitle “The Legend of Thousand-Fang Ridge.” Don’t mix it up with the other mission called Warrior, in Russet Highlands. That one belongs to Sherro’s quest chain and has nothing to do with Inferlupa.

It starts at Beast Fang Ridge, where you follow “Clue: the Inferlupa’s Flying Head” to the Emberpup campfire in the Ridgeback forest. Each visit comes with the same two conditions. You have to be twined with an Emberpup or one of its evolutions, and it has to be night, which you can switch to from the menu once the story is far enough along to allow it.

On the first day, the Emberpup talk about a flying head in the woods. The marker points east, to an Inferlupa standing in front of the leafless trees. Beat it, then talk to it while twined with an Emberpup. The second day brings the story of a warrior who was never defeated. The third brings the last story and a rematch with the Inferlupa, a harder fight than the first, and then a cutscene ends the mission and opens the branch. Each day, pick up one Spirit Dust near the campfire, three over the whole mission. For both fights, a Water or Wind team is the better pick.

Where to Find the Elite Flameruff

Only elite Flameruff drop Unbroken Flameruff Spirits. Ordinary Flameruff never do. The elites live at Beast Fang Ridge, in the clearing of dry trees east of the Alpha Scorchhowl’s territory, which is the same clearing where the mission’s Inferlupa turns up at night. They come out only by day. You’ll know them by the title “Flameruff ・The Mighty” over their heads, and creature databases list them as “Flameruff: Elite.”

The Spirits come slowly. The drop isn’t guaranteed and the chance is low, so you’ll need repeated fights to collect six. To make the elites respawn, teleport away, to the Outpost for example, and return.

When the elites first show up is still an open question. Five guides send you hunting during the waiting days of the mission, and two say the elites appear only after it’s over. We haven’t been there to check. Our advice is to walk through the clearing in daylight from the second day of the mission on, and if they aren’t there, to come back when the mission is done.

Why Six Spirits and One Night Stone

Six is the number to plan for. Of the eleven guides we read that give a count for the Spirits, ten say six, and two of those show their work. One links to a video of the evolution screen, and the other was written by a player who did the evolution. The only guide that says one lists a single item and leaves out the Night Stone, which eight of the other ten include, so we think it made a mistake. The Night Stone itself drops from Dark-type Alphas, and the evolution takes one. We’ll count both items on the evolution screen ourselves.

Releasing an Inferlupa gives some Unbroken Flameruff Spirits back, though how many isn’t clear, so we won’t put a number on it. But we think it only helps if you have a spare Inferlupa, because releasing the one you’ve just built undoes your own work.

Has a Patch Changed Any of This?

Not according to the official notes. We read three official texts in full: the patch notes for 1.0.3616231.0, from September 29, 2026; the patch notes for v1.0.3629693.0, from September 30; and Dev Dispatch Vol. 1, from October 1. We also searched every announcement since September 21 for the names in this guide. None of them mentions Flameruff, Inferlupa, Emberpup, Beast Fang Ridge, the Warrior mission, the Night Stone, or the Spirits. On October 1, Steam showed a new public build, 25647255, with no notes at all, and the guides we read on October 2 and 3 report no change to any of this. That’s why this page follows version 1.0.3629693, the latest one with official notes.

What We Haven’t Tested Yet

Two answers still need someone in the game rather than another source. We’ll count what the evolution screen asks for, expecting six Spirits and one Night Stone, and from the second day of the mission we’ll walk through the clearing in daylight to see when the elites show up. Until then, start the Warrior mission before anything else. It’s the one part of the route that runs on the server’s clock instead of yours.
